The only
noises you could hear, if you were listening, were the boom of the canons and
guns, and people screaming their last screams. But I wasn't listening. The only
thing I could hear was my heart, beating. I only saw the enemy and my Kalharkas
flashing in front of me, taking
down the soldiers.
Then I heard a
roar in the distance. It couldn't be. I sliced with my left Kalharka,
and looked up. I heard another roar, a little closer this time. Damn. Then I
looked back at the enemy soldiers. I looked at ones face that was close to me.
It was a face of an innocent farmer. I shouldn't have been shocked, but I was.
Had the Emperor have no feelings for these poor men? Most of these people had
never touched a sword in their life, let alone ,know how to use one. And yet,
they were here, fighting for a corrupted king. Amazing.
I saw movement
in the corner of my eye. I spun and slashed. There went the poor man's head. I
sighed. These men could be home, working on their farms, in their stores, and
workshops. Making their town stronger. I heard another roar, this one even
closer than the last. Several of my men went in front of me.
Back to the task
at mind. The dragon. We were not ready for an attack like that. We can defeat
an army, but not a dragon alongside it. But we also could not handle the casualties
it would cost us. I sighed again. I knew what we must do.
